DIY Dried Rose Petals

Hey Guys

Its AGirlNamedEgypt here and today I’m going to be showing you 2 ways  to make your own Dried Rose Petals, You can use Dried Rose Petals in many different ways but for my next Post I will be showing you how to use Dried Rose Petals in some really cute Rose Bath Salts that you can make for DIY Xmas Gifts.

Now Gather your supplies

  • Roses ( As many as you want and which ever colours you want, I’m using 3-4 and in Apricot, Pink and Red colours )
  • Paper Towels or Tissue Paper
  • 2 Microwavable Plates
  • A Microwave
  • A Heavy Book

Method 1 : Using A Microwave

Line a microwave safe plate with a double layer of paper towels. Once you have done this, place the petals you would like to dry on the paper towels. Make sure that they are in a single layer without any overlapping petals. The petals will dry together if they are overlapping and will rip if you try to pull them apart.

Cover the petals. Once you have laid the petals in a single layer, cover them with another layer of paper towels. Place another plate on top of all of this so that it acts as a lid for the bottom plate.

Place the stack of plates in the microwave. Heat on high until the petals are no longer damp to the touch, approximately 60 seconds. Microwaves very, so you may have to experiment to find the correct length of time for drying the rose petals.

Test the petals for dryness. After the right amount of microwave time, lift the top plate and layer of paper towels. The petals should feel dry and a little crispy. If the petals still feel damp, place them back in the microwave and continue to dry them.

Remove the petals from the microwave. If you wish to make them crisper, spread the petals onto paper towels or a book arranged on a flat surface. Choose a drying location away from breeze, moisture, light and dust.

Tada you have just made your own Dried Rose Petals.

But of course you can make Dried Rose Petals without a Microwave cue………………………..

Method 2 : Using a Book

Open the book. ( Try to use a heavy book like the dictionary or a history book. )

Put the petals inside it. ( Make sure they are in a single layer, You may need to use more than one page of the book if you have a lot of petals. )

Close the book ( Try not to fold the petals. )

Wait about a week or two, and your petals should be dry.

And that’s two ways to make Dried Rose Petals, Now ill tell you some ways you can use and store you Dried Rose Petals.

Storing and Using Dried Rose Petals

Store dried rose petals in coffee cans, tins, or glass jars. The dried petals can be stored this way for extended periods. Make sure the storage containers seal tightly to prevent insects from entering and eating the petals. Do not store them in direct sunlight.

Add Rose Petals to the humble cup of water. Adding Rose Petals to a Glass of water will give the water a faint Rose flavour which Is quite nice on a summer day.

Rose Petal Ice Cubes. Add a petal or two to your ice-cube mould before adding water to make a cute Rose ice-cubes.

Add some petals to your food.  Try making your own rose petal jam, or make frosted rose petals to add to a cake.

Rose Petal Bath Salts. For my next post I will be showing you how to make Rose Bath Salts which would make a perfect DIY Christmas Gift.

That’s All for now.
